Get to know Monica a little more…

Where did you work before joining Police Credit Union?

I worked as a Front Office Coordinator at a Dental Clinic, while simultaneously owning and managing a shoe store called H&A Shoe Collection. Prior to that, I was employed at NAB and I am also a qualified Beauty Therapist.

What made you pursue your current role?

I have a passion for continuous learning and expanding both my knowledge base and skill set. At Police Credit Union, I’ve been fortunate to be provided many opportunities for growth. It all began with my initial role in the Ian Berry Insurance Sales team, where I later transitioned to become a Member Services Officer at our Adelaide branch. This shift allowed me to engage directly with our Members, a facet of my work that I deeply enjoy. Subsequently, I moved to our Marion Branch, which is closer to both my home and local community. The transition to my current position in Sales, Service, and Lending was a natural progression that I eagerly embraced. Not only did it promise personal growth but having already collaborated with the Marion team, I recognised the positive impact I could make on the lives of our Members in this role.

How do you describe your role at Police Credit Union?

I embody the spirit of teamwork and versatility, particularly when each day brings new challenges. Beyond delivering daily results for our Members, I actively contribute to the overall success of the branch. My role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, from personal lending and teller duties to providing exceptional customer service. Additionally, I step in to support and fill in as Assistant Branch Manager when needed and I am always happy visiting our local police stations, especially when we have special treats to give out as a small gesture. On top of these duties, I also serve as the unofficial branch event coordinator and social planning specialist, adding an extra layer of fun and engagement to my role.

What’s the best part of your job?

Undoubtedly the opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional team and serve our Members with care and support. Working alongside dedicated colleagues and making a positive impact on the lives of our Members is truly fulfilling and drives my passion for what I do every day. Building rapport with Members who return to see me is always rewarding.

What has been a highlight or special memory from your time with Police Credit Union?

The biggest highlight of my role is the satisfaction of knowing that I consistently make a positive impact on our Members’ lives. Being recognised daily for this contribution reaffirms my dedication and motivates me to continually strive for excellence. I’m proud to have received two High Achiever awards during my time at Police Credit Union, a testament to my commitment to delivering exceptional service and making a difference in the lives of those we serve, as well as receiving a scholarship.

What are you studying through your scholarship from Police Credit Union?

I am studying a Diploma of Leadership and Management. My future goal within Police Credit Union is to become a Branch Manager or work in a management or leadership role. I’m very interested in the growth and development opportunities that progressing into management and leadership will provide.

What is your hidden talent/superpower?

I can fluently speak Polish and have the ability to balance the responsibilities of being a working mum with teenage sons. Embracing my cultural heritage and effectively communicating in Polish enriches my personal life, and juggling the demands of nurturing my family whilst excelling in my career is something I take great pride in. I’m a multitasker at its finest!

What’s the best piece of advice you give to others?

Always have something like a trip in the planning stages, or already booked, to look forward to. Personally, I’m passionate about travel, and having a trip planned or a weekend getaway on the horizon consistently keeps me in a positive mindset. It’s a simple yet effective way to keep the excitement in life. And…you only live once so live life to its fullest!

What do you like to do with your spare time or on the weekends?

For me, weekends are for creating memories with loved ones, whether it’s spending quality time with family and friends, hosting gatherings at home, indulging in meals at restaurants, exploring the local wineries. I love to enjoy the warmth of the sun whilst listening to live music, eating and drinking or just soaking in the outdoors! My sons are also very keen on mountain biking adventures and heading out on boat rides, fishing and exploring. Weekends are the perfect opportunity to spend time together as a family and with friends doing adventurous activities and catching up. And of course, travel and weekend getaways.

What do you like most about working at Police Credit Union?

The sense of community and family I feel being part of a team and the strong connections we share with our Members. Making a difference in our Members’ lives brings me pride and fulfillment every day. But what really sets Police Credit Union apart is the genuine friendship amongst my team at Marion and the wider organisation. Our workplace has such an inclusive and supportive culture and strong values, it’s remarkable that our CEO knows each of us by name.

We’re very lucky to have Monica onboard. Next time you visit our Marion branch, make sure to say hi! She’ll be ready to answer all your banking questions, share some travel tips or even teach you a bit of Polish.
