Faces Behind Better Banking – Dylan

If you’ve visited the Adelaide branch in the last two years, you might recognise Dylan. Having started at Police Credit Union six years ago as a trainee, Dylan has grown with our company working in a variety of roles and developed his career from Trainee to Member Services Officer and Lending Officer to Product Coordinator.

Dylan’s recent promotion to Product Coordinator has him excited for the future challenges and development opportunities of this new role. With a passion for Police Credit Union and our people, we hope Dylan continues to thrive.

Get to know Dylan a little more…

What led you to work for Police Credit Union? How did you end up in your current role?

I graduated high school and Police Credit Union were offering a traineeship in Business Administration which, at 18 years old, I didn’t really understand the role, but I applied and was lucky enough to be offered the job. After completing the traineeship and spending a few more years in that department I was encouraged to apply for a role in the Adelaide Branch. I spent two years in the branch during which I was promoted from Teller to Loans Officer. Recently, I have been successful in securing the role of Product Coordinator and am looking forward to the new challenges that come with the new role and being involved with ensuring our rates remain market leading and continuing to improve our offerings.

How do you describe your current role at Police Credit Union?

In my current role as Product Coordinator, I am a part of our Product and Pricing committee. I conduct competitor analysis to assist with submissions for changes to our current product range as well as proposals for potential new products. I work closely with our marketing team to ensure any changes are updated across our digital and printed marketing. I also assist with daily and weekly reporting of branch activity.

How long have you worked here?

I have been at Police Credit Union for six years now.

Did you always plan on staying at Police Credit Union?

When I started, I wasn’t sure what my career path was going to be or where I wanted it to be. With Police Credit Union encouraging my development, it was a no brainer to stay and continue my career here.

What opportunities have you been given working at Police Credit Union?

Police Credit Union has given me the opportunity to work across different branches including a two week stint in our Mt Gambier branch which helped fast track my learning and progression. I have had great support to continue to strive for roles and have experienced firsthand the way Police Credit Union likes to promote from within.

What’s the best part of your job?

In the branch, the best part of the job is getting to know our regular Members. In my new role as Product Coordinator, I am enjoying the opportunity to work closely with and learn from new teams who are happy to share their knowledge and help support me.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I hope to still be here at Police Credit Union. I hope to see my role progress into Product Manager and I hope to be involved in more project teams.

What have been some of your highlights during your time with Police Credit Union?

Being a part of the last two Credit Union Christmas pageants was a highlight. Both years, I was part of the team handing out Pageant merch to all the families and kids sitting excitedly along the route.

Why do you think Police Credit Union or banking is a good place to start your career?

Speaking firsthand, Police Credit Union has been a great place to start my career journey. They have offered so much support with professional development. The banking sector is massive and offers so many career paths, I believe that is why it’s so popular.

What advice would you give for someone wanting to start a career in banking?

Go for it! Once you are in banking, there are so many options.

What is your secret hidden talent/superpower?

I’m not sure I have a superpower, but I do rely on my strong maths ability.

What are you binge watching at the moment?

Currently, I’m watching Outer Banks.

What is the one song that you always get stuck in your head?

Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band, much to my wife’s dismay.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

Law Abiding Citizen, but any action movie will do!

Who’s your favourite footy team?

The Crows!

What do you like to do with your spare time or on the weekends?

I enjoy spending time with friends, going away camping and going to the beach.

What do you like most about working with the team at Police Credit Union?

I enjoy the fact that we are smaller than some other financial institutions. This means you get the opportunity to work collaboratively with staff from other departments and get to know each other on a more personal level.

While you may not get the chance to see Dylan in our branches, he will be busy working behind the scenes on our product propositions and ensuring we continue to offer our Members competitive rates.
