The Faces Behind Better Banking 50th Birthday Edition: Darius Jones

Turning 50 is no small feat, and reaching such a milestone involves the contribution of many people. So enjoy this special edition of the Faces Behind Better Banking as we bring you a look at some of our amazing and dedicated staff who have grown with the organisation and helped it become what it is today!

Darius “DJ” Jones may not be a well known face to our Members because he isn’t in branches, but he certainly is well known across the organisation. That’s not just because of his cheeky sense of humour – he is also one of the first faces that new staff see as the Learning & Development Consultant taking them through the induction process before they jump into their roles!

Find out more about DJ in our Q&A with him below…

Q: Why did you become involved with Police Credit Union?

A: I was working at McDonalds and my Dad said, “Go and get a real job”. So, here I am, 23 years later!

Q: What led you to be a long-standing staff member for the Credit Union?

A: It has been a combination of meeting and continuing to work with some of my best friends (who I consider to be family), the opportunity to develop and grow in a variety of roles, and the genuine enjoyment/support of the team.

Q: What does Police Credit Union mean to you?

A: Getting up in the morning and looking forward to coming to work. Honestly! It’s also a place that allows me to be me.

Q: What are your fondest or funniest memories of Police Credit Union?

A: I have a lot but one that sticks out for me was when, after being here for about six months, I was asked to prepare a speech for our former CEO in honour of his 50th birthday. I am known to have a sense of humour, so I prepared the speech as if I was the best man at a mate’s wedding. Little did I know that I would be delivering my speech in front of all staff, the Board of Directors and some other special guests – it could have gone terribly. However, to my surprise, the speech, which included mentions of receding hairlines and denture maintenance, had the whole crowd in hysterics!

Q: How have you grown whilst being involved with the Credit Union?

A: I started as a seventeen-year-old in the mail room, distributing mail to each department. Having moved around the organisation, I am now in my current position as Learning & Development Consultant within the People & Culture team. I run the corporate induction program and love it! I have grown up within this organisation, met friends who are like my family, moved house, built a house and gone through a tough journey with my partner to have a child. Now I have also become a dad in my time with Police Credit Union.

Q: If someone asked you why they should become a Member of Police Credit Union, what would you say?

A: If you are looking for a ‘one stop shop’ with a focus on customer service and a range of great products, Police Credit Union is the place to go!

Q. If someone asked you why they should work for Police Credit Union, what would you say?

A: Police Credit Union provides a great culture, has amazing people, good career development opportunities and an incredibly supportive management team whilst focussing on customer service. If this sounds like a place you would like to work, I’d encourage you to apply to join the team!

Some fun facts about DJ include his obsession with sneakers, he is a twin and he loves dance music.

We love having DJ on the Police Credit Union team – there is never a dull moment when he is around, he always goes out of his way to help where he can and can certainly put a smile on a face with one of his cracking jokes!
