Important changes to our safe custody packet services

We have important news regarding upcoming changes to our safe custody packet services. After careful consideration, we have decided to phase out this service. Banks and Credit Unions have been phasing out safe custody and safety deposit boxes for several years and while safe custody packets have served as a reliable storage solution in the past, advancements in technology (e.g. the introduction of electronic conveyancing and digital title certificates) and changing customer preferences have prompted us to reevaluate our offerings. We have contacted individuals currently utilising safe custody packets to advise of the change and outline steps for collection.

What this means for our Members

Members with a safe custody packet must attend Adelaide Branch or Mount Gambier Branch by appointment to collect their packet by 30 June 2024. Please call 1300 131 844 to speak with one of our friendly staff and arrange a convenient time.

Please remember to bring photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or proof of age card) when collecting a safe custody packet. Authorised Representatives collecting a deceased estate safe custody packet will also be required to provide a death certificate, will and some additional forms as required.

Alternatives for secure document storage

We understand that this change may require you to explore alternative options for the safekeeping of your important documents. While we will no longer offer safe custody packets, we suggest considering private storage companies, legal firms specialising in document storage, or exploring digital storage solutions as viable alternatives. These options can provide secure storage and easy accessibility to your documents when needed.

One of the most common documents stored in safe custody are Certificates of Title for property. South Australia, like most other states, now participates in electronic conveyancing and all titles for land in SA are held electronically. They can be accessed either online or at the Land Titles Office.

If you require any assistance or have questions, please reach out to us by calling us on 1300 131 844, visiting your local branch, or sending us a Secure Message via the Inbox in Online Banking or the Banking App.
